A new permanent postage stamp featuring the King of the Belgians
A new royal face will soon appear on Belgians’ mail. More colorful and more modern, the new permanent postage stamps featuring the King combine tradition and creativity.
Monday 25 August 2025Twelve years after his accession to the throne, the King of the Belgians features on a new series of definitive stamps issued by bpost. This update follows the tradition of renewing the royal portrait every ten years, in consultation with the Palace.
The new portrait is based on an official photograph by Bas Bogaerts and was engraved by international expert Martin Mörck. The design was entrusted to Myriam Voz, graphic designer at the Stamp Printing Works in Mechelen. This combination of photography, engraving and graphic design gives the stamps an identity that is both contemporary and timeless.
Everyday postage stamps with strong symbolic value
Printed by the millions, these are the best-selling stamps in Belgium. “They must be recognizable, dignified and timeless,” says Carla De Boodt, head of bpost’s philatelic program. Their update also attracts particular interest from collectors.
