bpost reaches milestone of 3,000 electric delivery vans
bpost will soon add the 3,000th electric delivery van to its fleet. In fact, the company is ordering 500 additional e-vans, which will bring it to the milestone this autumn. As a result of ongoing sustainability initiatives, bpost now delivers more than one in four parcels without emissions nationwide.
Tuesday 29 July 2025The proportion of electric vehicles in bpost’s fleet keeps increasing at an impressive pace. By June 2024, the number of electric vehicles for postal workers had already doubled from 1,000 to more than 2,000. Following the latest order of 500 new electric vans, the fleet will grow to 3,146 e-vans by this autumn. This makes bpost’s fleet not only the largest operational fleet in Belgium, but also the greenest.
A new e-truck as well
bpost is considering more than just delivery vehicles for postal workers. The company added a second electric truck earlier this year for transporting parcels between its sorting centres. With this strategy, bpost intends to achieve emission-free transport not only for the final kilometres but also during the sorting stages. The new electric truck operates alternately between the sorting centres at Antwerp, Liège, and Charleroi.
bpost’s green fleet in numbers:
- 3,146 e-vans
- 2,685 electric bicycles
- 485 e-bike trailers
- 2 e-trucks
An extra green peak for the end of the year
The delivery of 500 new electric vans is scheduled for this autumn, ensuring they are commissioned just before bpost’s year-end peak. In November and December, parcel volumes surge dramatically, with the company delivering up to 800,000 parcels each day. Of all those parcels, bpost already delivers 26% emission-free to their destination, which is more than one in four. bpost’s long-term goal is to ensure all parcels in Belgium reach their destinations without emissions by 2030.
