Additional 618 solar panels for bpost, with ambition to halve carbon emissions by 2030
bpost has activated 618 new solar panels on the roof of its (Brucargo) European Mail Centre in Zaventem. The new solar panels, installed in partnership with energy company Earth, will cut carbon emissions by hundreds of tonnes per year. bpost now has more than 31,544 solar panels.
Tuesday 24 September 2024bpost has clear ambitions for a sustainable, eco-friendly future. Recycled packaging, zero-emission parcel deliveries, a carbon-neutral head office and more than 2000 electric cars all have an important role to play in that. The goal is to cut bpost’s carbon emissions by an impressive 55% by 2030. Producing renewable energy with solar panels is a key part of this.
When combined, the solar panels installed on the roofs of the many bpost sorting and distribution centres across the country make up a sizeable power station, which is why bpost is investing heavily. bpost now has 53,626 square meters of installed solar panels across all sites, producing 9730 MWh of energy annually.
Carbon emissions once again reduced by hundreds of tonnes
After a first successful collaboration, production of renewable energy has now been stepped up again in partnership with Earth. This time, 618 solar panels have been installed on the roof of bpost’s European Mail Center (Brucargo) close to Brussels Airport. The total capacity of the new panels is 337 MWh, which is 36% of the site’s total energy demand. Carbon emissions will be cut by hundreds of tonnes per year. 33% of all energy produced is fed into the grid.
The solar panels at the Brucargo site were installed by Belgian company Earth. The new installation in Zaventem brings the total number of solar panels installed in 2024 to 1640. Over the past year Earth has installed solar panels at two other sites: Neder-over-Heembeek (526 solar panels) and Evere (496 solar panels).
