bpost collecting and transporting vital supplies to Turkey
We have all been deeply affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. bpost will again draw on its logistical expertise from February 21 to March 31 to collect donations at Post Offices and transport them all the way to Istanbul. Anyone in Belgium is able to drop off vital supplies (see the list below) at one of 657 Post Offices throughout the country. Join this solidarity network. Every little bit helps. Let us show our solidarity together.
Thursday 16 February 2023Collection of vital supplies at all Post Offices
Solidarity is in bpost’s DNA. At bpost, we are unable to remain passive in the face of such a humanitarian disaster. That’s why we have joined forces with Turkey’s national postal operator PTT. At bpost we are able to draw on our experiences from the Ukraine war and our successful partnership with Ukrposhta in committing to sending further humanitarian convoys from Belgium to meet the most urgent needs of the victims of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Starting February 21, 2023, anyone will be able to drop off vital supplies at bpost’s 657 Post Offices.
The list below has been drawn up in association with PTT. Only these items will be accepted:
Food
- Cans of fish, meat, vegetables, fruit or soup
- Powdered baby milk
- Cereals (muesli, cornflakes, granola)
- Nuts and dried fruits
- Packaged cookies
Bodycare
- Soap, shower gel, shampoo
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste
- Panty liners, sanitary napkins and tampons
- Baby diapers and wet wipes
Heat and energie
- Blankets and sleeping bags
- External batteries (powerbanks)
How to do it correctly?
- Give only products listed (no glass packaging!)
- Use a solid box (max 10 kg)
- Bring your box to a Post Office near you before March 31.
Donations will be forwarded to a bpost fulfilment centre, where they will be sorted and packed up for transport to Turkey’s national postal operator PTT in Istanbul. Manifest local security problems mean that no such deliveries can be made to Syria.
“Helping citizens is in bpost’s DNA,” says bpost Belgium CEO Jos Donvil. “The call for solidarity came from all directions, including employees, customers, drivers. It is impossible not to be moved by the suffering of the victims and their loved ones. We are joining forces with our Turkish colleagues at PTT, combining our logistics experience to transport and distribute the products the people there are desperately in need of."
Petra De Sutter, Minister responsible for bpost, about this initiative: "Every day we see images of people struggling to survive in the middle of collapsed buildings. Their daily lives have been buried under the rubble. By sending sleeping bags, powdered baby milk or canned food through bpost to the areas affected by the disaster, you are saving lives." bpost, which had already collected basic goods to help the Ukrainian population, is now repeating this action for the victims of the earthquake. "Every Belgian citizen has a Post Office nearby, so everyone can help the thousands of Syrian and Turkish victims."
bpost backs Consortium 1212’s appeal for financial aid to support the victims
bpost asks you to show your support to victims in both countries by making a monetary donation.
We have joined with Consortium 1212 to offer aid to the seven Consortium 1212 humanitarian organizations (Caritas International, Médecins du Monde, Handicap International, Oxfam Solidarity, Belgian Red Cross, Plan International Belgium and UNICEF Belgium) providing emergency support to victims in the affected areas. Donations are welcome online at 1212.be or can be paid directly into account BE19 0000 0000 1212.
The easiest way to donate is to text “Help” to 4330. Each text message costs 1 euro. The full amount goes to the Red Cross in the countries in question.
